A list of projects and film roles Chloë has either refused or only been rumored to be involved in.
Barry Munday (2010): Ginger Farley
According to a Cinematical March 2010 interview, Chloë originally read for the part of Ginger Farley in Barry Munday, however writer-director Chris D’Arienzo instead approached Chloë with the part of Ginger’s sister Jennifer. Actress Judy Greer was ultimately chosen for the role of Ginger.
Legally Blonde (2001): Vivian
Chloë was reportedly offered the role of Vivian in Robert Luketic’s smash hit comedy Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon. She declined the part, however, in order to be able to appear in the off-Broadway play What the Butler Saw. The role ultimately went to Selma Blair.
Boys Don’t Cry (1999): Brandon Teena
Chloë originally auditioned for the role of the transgender teenager Brandon Teena in Kimberly Peirce’s controversial and critically acclaimed fact-based drama Boys Don’t Cry, however director Peirce saw Lana Tisdel a more suitable role for her. Brandon Teena’s role went ultimately to Hilary Swank, who won both the Best Actress Golden Globe and Academy Award for her performance in the film.
Catch Me If You Can (2002): unknown role
Chloë was considered for a part in Steven Spielberg’s 2002 crime drama Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The role was however evidently for whatever reason excluded from the final script and was not cast for the actual film.
I Shot Andy Warhol (1996): unknown role
In 1995, director Mary Harron offered Chloë a small role in the 1996 movie I Shot Andy Warhol. Although Chloë agreed to audition for the part, she ultimately turned it down because she felt uncomfortable appearing in a bio-pic of such an iconic personality at the time. Harron and Chloë would later work together on the 2000 movie American Psycho.
Mona Lisa Smile (2003): Giselle Levy
Chloë auditioned for the role of Giselle Levy in Mike Newell’s 2003 drama comedy Mona Lisa Smile, starring Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles as well as Chloë’s then would-be Big Love co-star Ginnifer Goodwin. The part, however, went to actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Never Been Kissed (1999): Aldys
Chloë was originally offered the part of Aldys in the Drew Barrymore-vehicle Never Been Kissed. She turned down the part, however, and Leelee Sobieski was cast.
Terminator Salvation (2009): untitled role
Rumor had it in 2007 that Chloë was in contention with actress Rachel Weisz for the role of an at the time untitled female “terminator” in the upcoming 2009 Terminator sequel, Terminator Salvation. Neither actress was ultimately involved in the production.
