More articles from the UK — Chloë Sevigny is featured in today’s Sunday Herald. Check out the terrific Hit & Miss-oriented interview on the Sunday Herald website or digital scans of the feature in our gallery.
Excerpts from the article:
In the second episode there’s an astonishing scene where a naked Sevigny slaps her prosthesis repeatedly. I think it should be obvious by now it’s not Call the Midwife. “I hated that scene. I tried to get them to cut that. I thought they wanted to drag it out for too long. I thought it was gratuitous and unnecessary. I felt sometimes they were pushing it. They wanted to show the penis as much as they could. To be provocative just to be provocative. I didn’t think it was necessary to the story and I ended up getting into a lot of discourse with the producers over it.” Producers usually win in such fights, though. “Yeah they do.”
“I think I was quoted as saying it’s grim up north. But I don’t think I’m the first person to ever say that. I mean the UK is really beautiful. The landscapes up there were gorgeous. But it was just hard for me because I was working on this very intense subject matter, the biggest part I’ve ever played. I was the lead for the first time. I was single so I didn’t have a boyfriend to call and complain or talk about things. I wasn’t having sex. I wasn’t eating any carbohydrates. I was practically starving myself to remain skinny and my frame of mind was just topsy turvy, so I think it wasn’t so much the town. There are definitely worse towns I’ve shot in. Like Shreveport, Indiana [where Chloë filmed 'The Killing Room' in 2008 -- our note].”
“Earlier on in my career I was definitely more driven by the director. I was not as interested in the part and just wanted to work with people that I really respected. Whether it was one line in an entire movie, like Lars von Trier’s Manderlay, I just wanted to be with him again. But now I think I’m more concerned with character. As I’m getting older, to play the smaller roles doesn’t feel as fulfilling. So I’m trying to hold out for the more juicy roles.”

Update 2: Tweets from Red Production Co. and Sky Atlantic from the post-screening Q&A:
From @skyatlantic:
We’ve just seen ep. 1 of Hit & Miss. Chloë Sevigny, Paul Abbott, writer Sean Conway, & prod. Nicola Shindler are taking the stage for a Q&A.
Creator/Producer Paul Abbott came up with the concept, and writer Sean Conway took it on. “The crux of the story is family.” #hitandmiss
Chloë Sevigny says she was ready to sign “by the time I got to page 2.” She threw herself into research on transgender issues. #hitandmiss
Producer Nicola Shindler is discussing a sensitive issue – the unique nudity in the show. “It was important to see it.” #hitandmiss
Chloë discusses her time in Manchester. “I isolated myself while I was there. This was the most challenging role of my career.” #hitandmiss
Host Mariella Frostrup describes the look of #hitandmiss as “David Lynch meets Ian McEwan.” Sean Conway cites Terence Malick as an influence
Chloë discusses her time in Manchester. “I isolated myself while I was there. This was the most challenging role of my career.” #hitandmiss
The floor is opened up for audience questions. “Did you ever consider a transgender actor?” Nicola says “we just wanted the best actor.”
Chloë is praising her castmates (many of whom are here at the screening, including Karla Crome, Reece Noi, & Jonas Armatrong) #hitandmiss
From @RedProductionCo:
That’s the first time Chloe has seen Ep1 – she was worried about watching the nude scenes but is very pleased they were so sensitively shot.
Chloe says the karaoke scene was terrifying to film and her Morrissey rendition was a little ‘off key’.

Deadline.com reports Chloë Sevigny will be starring as Abigail Williams in Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s new play Abigail/1702 in New York this summer. More from Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that Chloe Sevigny will play Abigail Williams in Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa‘s new play Abigail/1702, which will premiere at New York Stage and Film this summer. The David Esbjornson-directed production will run June 27-July 8. The play is a supernatural suspense thriller set 10 years after the infamous Salem witch trials. Believing herself responsible for the deaths of 20 innocent people, Abigail is now living in Boston under an assumed name, caring for the sick, and struggling to atone for her sins — both the ones history remembers her for and the darker ones in her heart. When she starts to fall in love with a young sailor in her care, a chilling, diabolical figure from Abigail’s past comes calling… and demands her soul as recompense for her crimes, sending the woman on one final, terror-filled quest for redemption back into the dark, haunted woods of Salem.
The playwright met Sevigny and they became friends when they worked on Big Love, discovering they shared a mutual love of horror and the supernatural. Aguirre-Sacasa, you’ll recall, was one of the architects who helped repair Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, which became a Broadway hit after the roughest start a musical has had. WME reps both.
The wording in the article seems to indicate that Chloë’s involvement has yet to be confirmed, but if true, what a great opportunity to see her onstage! Can’t wait!

Even more from the UK press — Chloë Sevigny is featured in the May 13 issue of The Sunday Times. The article naturally focuses on Chloë’s work in the upcoming Hit & Miss miniseries and is perhaps the best of all the recent ones on Chloë so far overall, so be sure to give it a read either via the digital scans in our gallery or on the Sunday Times website.
Extracts from the article:
“I think it might be one of the most extreme roles I’ve done, yes,” Sevigny says in a languid East Coast drawl, her hair back to blonde from Mia’s deep brown.
It’s not just that you believe Sevigny as Mia in Hit & Miss — once you see it, she’s the only actress you could imagine in the role.
“I cried every day when they put [on the prosthetic penis]. You know, I’m ample-chested and I have this on. I felt very exposed, and it was hard, very hard, having people so close to your personal parts anyway — who you’re not sleeping with — for an hour and a half each day, to put it on. Then looking in the mirror… it was weird. I was lonely and I felt really unattractive. I was confused about my desirability — was I desirable? — in having that put on, and having men see me with that on.”
Self-awareness and self-promotion don’t tend to play well together, but Sevigny can’t, or won’t, stop saying what she thinks. An example: ostensibly, she’s talking to me to promote her Paul Abbott TV show, yet she says straightaway that she had never heard of him when she signed up for Hit & Miss, and has never met him.
So how about a little fun in future roles? “It depends, of course, on script, director, blah, blah, blah, but yes, I would love to do something comedic, or something big and actiony or romantic. I love all that. I went to see Jane Eyre, the Mia Wasikowska one, recently. It was so beautiful — a little boring, but so beautiful. I would die to be in something like that.”
